I am mostly a lurker and a new long AXC'er, I couldn't help but wonder if Ampex has something up their sleeve with this Web TV thing. In the late 60's and early 70's I worked in broadcast TV and am famaliar with Ampex slant track and Quadraplex machines along with RCA TR-60 VTR's. I wondered with a quality name like AMPEX why would they get involved with Web TV that has such a poor quality as compared to b'cst TV? Seems like it would be a step in the wrong direction unless they know something we don't. We know there have been many new "digital tricks" developed over the last few years. Witness the new high speed transmissions over telephone quality twisted pairs etc.. Could it be that Ampex has quietly been developing a new "digital trick" that would allow a "many fold" quality transmission? and their entry into the WebTV is their foot in the door so to speak. The introduction of a new system into an exploding technical market?? All this may sound far fetched and just pipe dreams but it could just as well be true today.....Any one have any comments?
Regards TW
