My humble understanding was that this backup install of NT would be bootable from the KOT drive as wellas w98.

That is not my understanding and I admit my understanding of multiple primary partitions is weak.

I believe Spots said you would boot the KOT NT installation by first booting the IDE1 NT install. You get an OS loader that gives you a selection option of multiple NT installs one of which could be on the KOT.

There are some situations (at least DOS as indicated by Spots) that do not work with multiple primary partitions. NT does...the question is does Win98..that was also left open by Spots. It is easy enough to find out, all I need do is try it..later tonight or tomorrow.

One would be able to do various repair procedures on the primary NT install from the KOT location. Or just run that copy of NT temporarily in an emergency need of an NT OS.

I buy the concept, I am not sure about multiple primaries on the same physical drive if one OS is Win98.

Why would it not be accessible? Its just installed on ide 2 either in a dual boot setup in the w98 partition or as a secondary OS in its own partition.

If the KOT NT boot relies on the IDE1 NT boot then accessibility is affected if IDE 1 fails. I do not know the remainder of the answer until I know whether or not two primary partitions can coexist on one physical drive if one is Win98...I will try it and let you know. I have multiple primaries on one physical drive but they are all hidden but one.

I was under the impression that you thought a backup NT on the KOT drive was a good idea and that you would implement your own KOT that way..... is my imagination playing tricks on me again/<g>

I do think a backup NT install is a good idea..not from my own experience..if Spots thinks a backup NT install is a good idea then so do I<g> The KOT seems like a logical place to put it.

I was going along with the NT/Win98 dual boot on the KOT and want to try it. I just do not think it is possible to have two unhidden primary partitions if one is Win98...I am only fifty percent sure<g>

Having the backup for the primary install on the KOT, to my mind, fits the utility description of a KOT drive.

Agreed..IF if the boot can initiate from the KOT and is not reliant on IDE1.
