Slick - Re: " AMD has done an incredible job of ramping up multiple product lines very quickly, with far less resources than their competitor. "

AMD shelled out $800,000,000 for the NexGEN group.

AMD borrowed $500,000,000 from DLJ's SUCKER LIST last year.

AMD mortgaged MegaFLop 25 for $425,000,000.

AMD sold off their Headquarters for $90,000,000

AMD finessed the German Saxony State out of $1,000,000,000 for Dresden/Fab 30.

Those sum up to about $2.8 BILLION of resources - hardly a small sum !

Paul

PS - I didn't factor in the Motorola Copper process - maybe it's worth a few hundred dollars.

<AMD has done an incredible job of ramping up multiple product lines very quickly, with far less resources than their competitor.>

So? You can have the most yardage in a football game, but it means nothing if you keep committing turnovers every time you get to the red zone.

AMD has managed a few field goals, including the 3DNow instructions, the ramp-up to 400 MHz, and the 333 MHz mobile K6-2. But they do commit a lot of turnovers, including the K6-3 delay and the K6-2 "mask problem". Can the rookie called the K7 save the game for AMD?

Scumbria,

Without the recent Intel price cuts, AMD would be selling parts with ASP's around $150.

Well, thank god Intel is here to stop those price goughing sobs.

Why don't you ASSuMe Intel is not in MPU business, and AMD can make a profit... Isn't that a better, wetter dream?

Wake up! AMD has been losing $$$, in average -$0.12 per share per quarter, for last 36 months! And soon AMD will make it to 37 and 39 monthes.
