Tom,
Why? The two have nothing to do with each other. DCI is making it's own way in the overseas LD area and IXC is carrying traffic for others. As long as we receive best rate status from IXC, then there is not a problem with what they do with the rest of their capacity. It has no bearing on DCI as far as I can see. Now if you are thinking that they could be one of our suitors, then yes there is a bearing on the situation. It would be nice if they are but it is not that big a deal if they are not. There are plenty of other mid-size LD's out there looking for good properties to pick-up and we are one of those properties. I just don't see it as that big a deal.

LONG AND STRONG!!! GO DCTC!!!!

Bruce

Tom in WI:

We are hearing the marketing party line here more often than not. Traditionally, voice has been analog in nature, over 100% of the network. In fact, now, Voice has been made into data streams through out the network and it is only in the last links that voice is NOT digital (meaning data). With the advent of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), the digital data is carried further to the end points (originator / listener).

So the marketing folks still use the past as reference.

But never forget, the final output will always be analog - have you ever understood a modem talking to you? <G>

For the facts, IXC lines are digital, DCI are all digital, both in coming and outgoing to the PSTN, the PSTN usally goes digital to some end termination device in your neighborhood, where it is finally converter to analog and brought into your house. For cellular / PCS, it is all digital over their network already, getting converterd to analog at your phone (so you can understand <G>).

T,
Very interesting that he said IXC's traffic will change from 95 long distance to 95% data transmission by the year 2000-2005." At first glance, that doesn't sound very good for DCI's relationship with IXC

Regardless of how IXC generates its revenues people will still be making LD calls around the world. I am very happy with DCI's expansion into the European LD market. Joe has indicated on several occasions that he is moving the company toward two divisions, EDGE and the LD operations in Spain.

Best Regards
