To d e conway, The k6-3 and k7 will cause an immediate and substantial reaction from intc. Amd simply cannot win this battle. They are outsized, outgunned, outresearched and quite frankly outmanaged. Intc merely plays with amd much like a cat plays with a struggling mouse before the final kill. The unfortunate thing is that amd investors simply cannot come to terms with the inherent inferiority of amd and its obvious inability to execute. All the while long-term investors of amd sit around lamenting their losses and preaching the second coming. Give it up! AMD cannot and will not pull it off.

Consider this. Intel could have a Celeron 433 and 466 right now by just changing clock multipliers. AMD has to ramp up a new chip (K6-3) plus fix process problems to be able to keep up. No question which is the tougher task and more prone to mistakes along the way. While the K-3 might intro at 400 and 450 at the end of Feb. The 400 won't ship until the first week of March. The 450 won't ship in any volume until a few weeks after the K6-3-400. That means you won't be abl to get a K6-3-450 until the end of March/first of April. Neither chip will contribute much to over all 1st q ASPs but what they do contribute will barely offset the low prices AMD will have to sell current K6-2s for to compete wth the Celeron. Don't expect to be able to buy a K6-2-450 until March either. The Celeron 433 will keep a lid on the K6-2-450 prices. So to make a long story short, if you want to trade AMD, OK, or if you want to add small amounts on down days in hopes that the K7 will be a hit then OK, but I can think of a lot safer long term holds. <G>
