Honestly, it is akin to your bank shutting it's doors, or at least not allowing you access to your money. BUT, I'm fairly confident my $100 bill will buy the same amount of good tommorrow as today. Are you confident 100 shares of EGRP will buy the same amount of goods if converted to cash today as a few days from now.

The media, save our new friend here, has largely ignored this story. Can you even begin to imagine the frenzy that would occur if one of the nation's highest ranked banks locked it's doors a few days in a row around lunchtime with no warning. And the dollar is stable! Government regulators would be in there within hours. Why aren't they responding?

>still have dean witter for a back-up

Marty,

It really irritates me that people seem to think it's the customer who is expected to have back up brokers! E*trade is the one who needs to have back-up systems in place, NOT us as customers.

The focus and attention needs to be on their lack of back-up systems. It is the broker who has the responsibility to be available, and to receive and process orders in a timely manner. Thier posting a message to the effect that "service is unavailable" is simply not acceptable.
