Rick... You're a good, honest citizen who believes he lives in an equally good and honest democratic society... You'd like to eliminate voter fraud and may the best man win and all that. Unfortunately, eliminating voter fraud is in the same category as campaign finance reform. It ain't gonna happen. Probably not even in CA - in spite of your propensity for initiatives and popular votes. Heck, even when you vote on things, the language is so convoluted that everyone ignores the results - legally. Look at what happened when you voted to eliminate bilingual education. Hmmm... Anyway, what politician in his right, crooked, mind would yield his opportunity to buy an election or, better yet, to be bought? What politician would give up his sacred right to have the dead vote? Why, in NY City alone, not only do the dead vote at least once, but the living who have moved often have the opportunity to vote 2 or 3 times. Were you born when Daly delivered Chicago to Kennedy? My own daughter (honest as the day is long) is registered and votes in NY City where she lives. Since, however, she first registered and voted here in Dutchess County, she remains on the rolls here, too. It would be no problem for her to vote in 2 different locations and, if she knew the "right" people, she could even be paid for doing so. Trust me. It happens. The only politician who gets "booted out" is the one who's on bad terms with the dead. Gotta be careful with this fingerprint stuff. It's subversive...could undermine the very foundation of our political process by insisting that a vote be an honest one. Yikes! In America? Jean
