John - Welcome aboard. First, some general comments. In case you haven't seen this posting, it was written by BJ Taylor, our former Manager of PR/IR. Although BJ has moved on to start his own firm, the ground rules he defined are still in force for DWEB IR:Message 4408310 Our experience vis-a-vis businesses plans for their EDI infrastructure is consistent with your own. Businesses want to leverage it and improve it, not discard it. We believe then, that an Internet driven paradigm shift will impact existing EDI usage in two major ways: 1. It will foster a series of new Internet/IP enabled value propositions that 'Extend the Enterprise' on an EDI platform. 2. It will exert price pressure for existing traffic. This makes owners of existing EDI infrastructure big winners. In summary they can expect, simultaneously: cost reductions and value increases. Of the two Internet/IP driven 'reforms', we believe, at this time, that new value opportunities are more compelling then cost reduction opportunities. The scope of cost saving opportunities is constrained by total traffic revenue (somewhere around $1B estimated 1998); while the scope of new value opportunities are constrained only by imagination. As to the specific questions that you posed, they are all great questions. You obviously have done your home work on the subject of EDI - Internet convergence. That said I must refrain from answering, for now. We have to be careful of 'selective disclosure' here. I will however, take these questions back to legal, to explore options for disclosure, without running into 'selective disclosure' problems. By the way, your knowledge in this field seems impressive. We are always looking for talented people to join our effort.
