that makes sense, i think what my strategy will be going forward is to never open a position into margin. if the stock falls after i buy so i end up being in a margined position, so be it. As long as i limit my down side exposure this should not cause me to have a margin call.

Dan,

Ok I daytrade Dell in and out 3 or 4 time a day on margin or cash, with a profit or loss. I assume this is correct as long as I don't hold overnight.
