E*Trash set itself up for the harsh criticism that largely has eluded other brokers. E*Trash has aggressively touted its stateless technology architecture, which was designed to bypass areas of the system that don't work, at one point saying that it should abolish systems failures.

E*Trash also made the mistake Wednesday of saying on CNBC that the problem was fixed when customers still were unable to trade.

If you are going to make a statement that something is fixed, you've got to make damn sure that it is because that's your credibility. You can brag about what you're going to do, but performance is proof of pudding. People can be understanding to a point but they're not understanding of false promises.

Etrash promotes fast and easy trading, luring customers with glitzy ads that talk of trades executed in seconds. They better deliver what they promise, or more suits will follow.

HIA,

Agree with the lawsuit happy public. I watched CNBC on fri. The medical student who spposedly lost his and families money by trading Net stocks, whined that the online broker should have cut him off and his Attorney justified his clients actions by stating that its like drinking in a bar, and the bartender doesnt cut the drinker off. Its a piss poor analogy and it allows people once again to NOT TAKE RESPONSILILTY for ONEs ACTIONS. We are living in a VERY lawsuit happy society. With close to 1 million attorneys in this country, its easy to understand why. There are more attorneys (total 10000) in Washington D.C. than the entire country of Japan.
Do you really think online brokers are going to receive a green light from live brokers? Their very jobs are on the line. Do you think a mom and pop store likes it when a warehouse franchise opens down the block? No, Online brokers are going to, unfortunately, receive many BAD PR. I use 2 different ones. Both are good. Both have their problems. We are entering a new frontier of investing. The future is now.
one last thing....If there is an icestorm somewhere and the electricity goes out (and telephone lines)do people sue their utility company because they could not trade???? I got it...We can sue the casino roulette spinner because had he/she spun the roulette "just" a little harder, the person wouldve won.

Good luck and prosperity to all..
