MCI WorldCom Wins Contract With Army and Air Force Worth Up to $1.5 Billion
Sweeping Department of Defense Agreement Awarded on Heels Of Multi-billion-dollar FTS2001 Federal Telecommunications Contract
MCLEAN, Va., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Less than a month after winning its largest contract since the merger, MCI WorldCom today snared another significant government contract with the Department of Defense valued at up to 1.5 billion dollars.

As part of the fresh ink agreement, MCI WorldCom will provide a range of telecommunications services to soldiers and airmen around the world for up to ten years under the banner of AAFES -- Army and Air Force Exchange Services.

''Army and Air Force personnel will now have more choice, and better value, when calling home or reaching friends,'' said Jerry Edgerton, senior vice president, MCI WorldCom Government Markets. ''We look forward to a strong relationship with our valued partner, providing the best connections for our best customers.''

Under terms of the contract, MCI WorldCom will offer a range of cost effective telecommunications services to Army and Air Force personnel, including 16,000 payphones worldwide, phone centers, residential service, Internet access terminals, and calling cards. Just as important, MCI WorldCom continues to support its significant prepaid card agreement with AAFES.

''This contract brings us up to date in a service-area that has changed dramatically in recent years,'' said AAFES chief contractor for telecommunications Michelle Priestly. ''Quite simply, MCI WorldCom can handle the job and offered AAFES and the customers we represent more than the other bidders did.''

In addition to this agreement, MCI WorldCom provides a range of services to the Department of Defense, including switched and bandwidth management services for the CONUS (Continental United States) Defense Information System Network (DISN) and contracts similar to the AAFES award for the Marine Corps (via the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Association) at bases in Japan.

On January 12, MCI WorldCom captured the second of two awards for the federal government's FTS2001 program that will provide comprehensive, global long distance networking services for federal agencies. The eight-year, multi-billion dollar contract includes a range of domestic and global voice, data, Internet and videoconferencing services.
