CONGRESSMAN JOHN PETERSON TO DELIVER KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT
CONFERENCE ON CLEAN, RENEWABLE ENERGY

Washington, D.C.-Congressman John Peterson has accepted an invitation to deliver the keynote address at the 10th Annual U.S. Hydrogen Meeting, held by the National Hydrogen Association in Washington, D.C. in April. Peterson is a leading proponent of federal policy that encourages research and development of renewable, alternative fuels, such as hydrogen.

Peterson said, "The potential for hydrogen is enormous. Rather than relying on imported fuels, we can use hydrogen produced here at home to expand our economy without harming our environment. Expanding the use of hydrogen and other renewable energy sources will increase U.S. competitiveness and reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil."

Hydrogen as a fuel is on the cutting-edge of renewable energy sources. Used by NASA to power the Space Shuttle, hydrogen can eventually be used to meet most power needs, cleanly and economically. It can power airplanes and cars and provide heat and electricity for homes and businesses.

The National Hydrogen Association conference is the largest annual gathering of hydrogen experts from private industry, government and research in the world.

The Chairman of the Board of the National Hydrogen Association, Venki Raman of Air Products, said, "We're honored to have Congressman Peterson deliver the keynote address. Congressman Peterson is a leader in Congress for the promotion of hydrogen as an economic and clean energy source."

Hydrogen is among the most abundant of all the elements on earth. There is an inexhaustible supply of hydrogen that can more than meet all energy needs, and it can be used with no pollution. When hydrogen combines with oxygen in a device know as a fuel cell, it produces electricity and water and therefore is a clean fuel.

Many U.S. companies are already involved in the development of hydrogen as a fuel source. AlliedSignal, Ford Motor Co., and Shell Hydrogen are among those who will attend the April conference.
