Linksys Showcases Home Phoneline Networking at Demo 99 HomeLink Phoneline Networking Solutions Make Networking PCs at Home Easy and Affordable

February 8, 1999

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/To make home and
small office networking easier, Linksys(R), today
at the Demo 99 conference in Indian Wells,
California, will unveil the new Linksys
HomeLink(TM) Phoneline Networking Series, the
latest breakthrough in PC networking. The
HomeLink series allows multiple PC users to
network their computers to share data files,
printers and access to a single Internet
connection through any telephone outlet
without extra hubs or cables. Estimated street
price starts at $49.99.

Linksys will be showcasing its HomeLink series at
Demo 99 in conjunction with other members of
the Home Phoneline Network Alliance (HomePNA)
in the San Remo Room at the Renaissance
Esmeralda Resort in Indian Wells, California.

"We are fortunate to be participating in Demo
99 with HomePNA, as we believe our HomeLink
Series address the problems associated with
home users building their own networks: difficult
to set up and costly," said Donella Cecrle,
Linksys Director of Retail Sales. "Linksys and
other members of HomePNA are committed to
providing easy to use, affordable and
interoperable networking products using home
phone lines. Our HomeLink products meet these
standards and are now the first home line
networking products being offered in retail
stores."

The Linksys HomeLink(TM) Phoneline Network
Card utilizes AMD's PCnet(TM)-Home controller
which allows telephone lines to carry data up to
1Mbps transfer rate without interrupting regular
telephone service or feeds from a cable modem
or Digital Subscriber Line (xDSL). Users can
network multiple PCs to share data files, printers
and access to a single Internet connection
through any phone outlet. (If users want to go
Ethernet later on, the network card is equipped
with a 10BaseT RJ-45 port so migration to
10Mbps is easy.) WinGate(TM) software, with a
three-user license, is included so users can
share one modem and Internet connection over
the entire network. Multi-player game playing is
also possible over the network. This new
technology is being offered in compliance with
HomePNA's recently published specifications, of
which Linksys is a member.
