Forgot to Mention the Ink Fading. Researcher who works for simthsonian says Ink Jets fade significantly after 6 months. see the following URL.... Dry Ink is much more fade resistant.

Wilhelm Imaging Research, Inc (http://www.wilhelm-research.com/)

There is huge differnce on the 1300 between Micro Dry CYMK normal mode at 600x600 DPI verus (Die Sub Mode) CMY and Clear) x 600x600. The die sub has no dots. the MD1000 isn't close in this respect. (I have not yet seen "photorealistic mode").

Now they do make a Clear Coat for the Micro Dry mode. With Micro Dry you can print on card and laser stock. They also make an intermediate priced paper called PhotoRealistic paper when used with the regular inks and clear produces high value prints. The printer did not come with this paper or clear cartridge. I have ordered at least 1 of every ink cart and paper type they make for the 1300. It can also use metallic inks. I have a sample on black film with metallic graphics (very snazzy). I will let everyone know more when I get my $170 load of supplies from buycomp.com (cheapest place for alps I found and cheap shipping).

Printer Comes with:

Ink Abbreviations:
C - Cyan
M - Magenta
Y - Yellow
K - Black

4 Photo Quality carts for photo paper only (die sub)
CMY and Clear

4 Standard Dry Inks Carts (micro dry)
CMYK

2 sheets photo quality 4x6
5 Sheets of Alps brand Paper
100 Sheets of Hammermill Premium extra white laser pape

Driver CD and StickerPix software
CD with Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0

Thin Manual.
180 Page Manual in PDF format on CD.

A bonus. 24/7 Toll Free Support. Called twice sunday. pick up on the second ring the first time. second time about 5 minutes. tech was helpful both times.

I'll calculate some cost #'s after another week or two. I have not run out of any colors yet. Am printing 8x10's at 100% Coverage.

Inks are specced at:

30-40 Pages (no coverage specified) (we'll see)

4 photo inks are $27 (all prices are low street from buy.com)
4 regular inks are $16
4 metallic inks are $24

They also have white carts

inks are sold and replaced individually by color.

Photo 8.5x11 are $12.95 for 20 Sheets
Photo 4x6 are $3.95 for 20 Sheets
PhotoRealistic 8.5x11 is $5.95 for 20 Sheets

BTW: thats just for the 1300. There are like other printers like the MD 5000 which require different paper and inks. It was confusing at first... :)
