And you bitch about Drudge! At least his IQ is over 100, unlike Lewis. You take your orders from those of equal intelligence I see.

Both you and Harvey beat me to posting the Anthony Lewis article.

Some comments:
1. Your deliverance article is appreciated. Yes the lack of a clear beacon on Hyde S and L involvment astounds me.

2. Thinking of Hyde's Roman oratory on the events of the day, S&L scandals both unearthed and buried, it seemes we are in some national scale game of tit for tat.

Given that, I wonder how things are setting up here for the next election. I see Elizabeth Dole is presenting a 'sunny Reaganism' in New Hampshire, Gary Bauer is in, it's Gore's nomination to lose. I am wondering how both parties, the republicans with the moderates and conservative right, and the democrats with the centrism of Gore and it's left will shape the next set of issues. These will be: socsec, deregulation (but where), education (more a states issue), disposition of the surplus, others?

3. Quote of the week from MSL:

Her (Monica Lewsinky's) answer, devastating in its obviousness, was:

"First of all, I thought it was nobody's business. Second of all, I didn't want anything to do with Paula Jones or her case."

Nancy

Hyde Demands Senate 'Cleanse Office' nytimes.com

Among the Republicans, there was a certain fatalistic self-pity.

Hyde spoke bitterly of indignities he said he and his colleagues had endured, enumerating them as follows: "the media condemnations, the patronizing editorials, the hate mail, the insults hurled in public, the attempts at intimidation, the death threats and even the disapproval of our colleagues, which cuts the worst."

Poor Henry. Media condemnations? Patronizing editorials? Somebody ought to tell the beleaguered whiner about the WSJ editorial page. Insults hurled? I'm sure I'll get a few more here from the morally superior ad hominem ad nauseum crowd. Disapproval of colleagues? How strange that the Senate was not properly appreciative of the hot potato being tossed to them. Plus all the whining about witnesses, when old Henry couldn't be bothered with such trivialities in the House.

I suggest the Republicans feature Henry Hyde prominently in their political advertising for the next 21 months, proudly proclaiming "You're stupid, and we're not!". Just the ticket for the next election.
