You're certainly correct about the inherent insecurity of most e-mail systems. However it is my understanding that CheckFree will deliver E-bills via the web (and not via e-mail), using the asymmetric, or public key cryptographic capability available in the more recent browser software.

This delivery method permits only the intended recipient to view the e-bill, and provides a method of positive identification, such that the recipient can have great confidence that the sender of the bill is who it says it is and not an imposter.
