Hi again Hutch:

We are now both on the record. The world is a rapidly changing place now, thanks to the communication revolution. When the "gringos from the North are coming down to try to steal our gold " attitude becomes prevalent at a minesite, it stops mines from being developed.

At the Vancouver Roundup in Jan 1999, Ian Thomson of Ian Thomson Consulting gave the Keynote address on Central and South American Gold deposits snapshot session entitled "A social license to operate: essential for success in International Exploration". He described several occurrences of mining companies being turfed out of countries because public opinion was ignored.

Two lectures later, Patricio Jones gave the Snapshot on Argentina Gold.

As far as your opinions as to the size of the resource Arp will prove up. We are at the beginning of that process right now, and they say they have 8 million eq oz gold. Targets are open in all directions. I say they double that in the next 18 months. My money is on the table. Perhaps you will short ARP now and call my bet. I will then raise the bet when the price is right.

I certainly agree Barrick deserves watching. A great company with lots of good people. I'm sure some were not too pleased with what happened in Argentina over the last few months. Barrick, by their own admission says Pascua and area have the potential to become the largest gold and silver mine in South America....Alan Hill, Exec VP Development, Barrick.

Yes, someone else here with too much time on my hands, but I question your reasoning. If the price was hit right on the head then ABX would have succeded, as for spectulators buying 40% of the Company and marching over to ABX. Do you think someone can buy 40% of Company unnoticed, I doubt it, the price would certainly have to rise. ther eis also such a thing as disclosure and insider trading. Once someone owns 10% they become an insider and reporting kicks in. I don't see your scenario working, unless they was avery long time interval with several buyers in collusion.

Hutch,

I don't call this a victory:

'
Uncertainty about Barrick's growth strategy was compounded by the
surprise resignation late Monday afternoon of Paul
Melnuk, the man handpicked last spring to lead the senior gold
producer into the next decade.....

The timing of the resignation, just hours before the expiry of the
takeover offer and one day before Melnuk was due to chair
Barrick's year-end earnings presentation in Toronto, threw a wrench...'
