Michael:
The fact is that there are a bunch of problems brewing behind the scenes at INTC.

Merced is also at the root of a brou-ha-ha between INTC types and their HWP counterparts, but we better not get into any aspect of that one.

I think it was Mary who prompted some discussion a few days ago about just where the 64 bit INTC effort resides, and I tried to hint that a certain chip might perhaps become a bit more visible. Enough said.

On another topic that might be of interest to our own "Excellent Adventure" three musketeers. :
We've fielded an unusual number of calls from primarily professional parties with whom we have no relationship, enquiring as to our views on MU. Most have resulted from an article that appeared in the N.Y.Times, of a week ago, as well as a 3 pager that added some further worrisome details and which has apparently received wide dissemination.

We have kept track of those items that appeared to be of greatest concern to our callers. In order, they are:
- the apparent attempt to mask a problem
- the "must buy" contract along with the attendant concerns related thereto.
- The approaching April deluge (the "overhang").
- The possibility of an SEC sniff.
- The TXN plant dilemma (big losses if plants not improved, smaller losses but cash gone if plants improved)
- The debt load
- The non-appearance of the "new cycle".
- The weakening PC demand.

I find the order rather interesting. I found the attitudes displayed even more interesting. (g)
Today's action suggests that some are acting on the above.

Best, Earlie
