Agreed. And someone should tell Steve Forbes that flat taxes are OK -- provided we start with the SS taxes!

The benefits program is flawed. It's a cash cow for buying votes by adding beneficiary classes to the program or by raising their benefits. They loosened the definition of "disability" earlier in the decade. Medicare's disability program is now about one-third of the cost. They had a program on special ed programs in schools which have ballooned since this reclassification of "disability". Parents are abusing it to get their kids tutoring and other entitlements.

I don't want taxes increased. They never rationalize programs if you increase taxes, especially with a fictional trust fund like SS. The politicians will raise taxes elsewhere to make up for decreased SS taxes if you are hoping for a SS tax cut.
