Your description of "stock as bonus" is common among publicly traded companies.

However, I don't think those "insiders" (meaning employees inside the company) are the ones who will have an impact on a stock's price. It's the "insiders" as defined by the SEC who can make a difference, since they're the ones who make decisions which can substantially affect the company's bottom line. "Can" make a difference, not "do" make a difference. Very situational.

This particular transaction by Mr. Petit tweaks my curiosity since it just so happened to occur after some major press releases, and right before the stock eroded.
