RE: Margin buying power

At most brokerage firms, buying power is not decreased unless you invest it, or you draw (borrow) cash, or your portfolio value diminishes to the point that you get a margin call. For example, this is true at Ameritrade, Brown & Co., and Suretrade.

One exception is Datek where your buying power is continuously recalculated during the trading day as your portfolio value fluctuates.
