BGR,

GOVERNMENT schools are a necessary foundation of the current socialistic US government. Took me 10 years to deprogram myself from all the socialistic liberal crap that the teachers (every one a straight Democratic ticket voting union member {if there were any Republicans or Independants they kept it secret}) poured into my brain. In my Government class the teacher regularly ridiculed Republicans and anyone who made more money than he did (which was practically everyone). The kind of social justice (translation... take from those that can and do and give to those that won't) that is being drilled into today's students guarantees the Dems plenty of sheep for the foreseeable future.

What really irks me is that the parent that wants to send his child to a private school has to pay twice, once for the Government school and again for the school of choice. If we are going to continue collecting 5 or 6 grand in taxes per child we should at least let the parent pick the school. The problem is that the Education elite can't stand the thought that a lowly parent might make a choice they don't like. God help us if a child should get Bible (or Koran, etc.) lessons at school. Funny that Catholic School students out perform their peers in Government schools even though they waste all that time on Catechism and have a lot less dollars per student lavished on them. Must be the nuns. VBG

Want to help the kids? Make every dime spent by anyone on k-12 education 100% tax deductible and get government OUT of education. The ONLY role any level of government should have in education is to guarantee a minimum level of funding per student, tied to the student. Yup, I am talking means tested vouchers.

re government schools
Of course you can comment.
Government schools lead to government propaganda and now also to govt usurping parents functions in many ways. No tax funded schools would not mean "no schools". There would be plenty and they would be wonderfully different from each other and would reflect what parents wanted their children to learn. Far better than what we have now, IMO
