Scumbria, re:Compaq would be crazy not to buy the company

Now that would be a very interesting turn of events. I can't even begin to list the cultural issues involved in such a marriage. Do you think AMD would survive as a wholly-owned entity, or would it be absorbed into the box vendor (a la Compaq inside). From it's posturing in the past, I'd guess that Compaq would want to extend it's image at the expense of whatever branding AMD has established. Man, that would sure make some ripples in the old PC pond!

Greg.

<If they prove they can deliver 20 million competitive CPUs per year, Compaq would be crazy not to buy the company.>

Very interesting theory. Compaq buying AMD.

Scumbria, >>>I think that AMD is a tremendously attractive takeover target. If they prove they
can deliver 20 million competitive CPUs per year, Compaq would be crazy not to
buy the company.<<<

I thought Compaq was crazy to buy both DEC and Tandem in the space of 12 months. Have they digested that double meal yet? AMD on top of that? Not enough antacid in the world. But, that's not to say that Pfeiffer wouldn't dust off his ego some more and do it.
