Aplio Ships Aplio/Phone 2.0, the World's First H.323-Compliant Standalone Internet Phone

February 12, 1999

SAN BRUNO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)

The Award-Winning Internet Telephony
Appliance Delivers True

Telephone Quality, H.323 Compliance,
PC-to-Phone Communication, Easy Remote
Configuration and Even Greater Savings

Aplio, Inc., creator of the innovative,
award-winning Internet telephony
appliance, today announced that it is
shipping the newest version of its
revolutionary Internet telephone --
Aplio/Phone 2.0.

Aplio/Phone 2.0 features state-of-the-art
IP telephony, including the highly
anticipated "Open Aplio" upgrade that
delivers industry standard
H.323-compliance, making Aplio the first
standalone Internet telephone.

With Aplio/Phone 2.0, users can now make
Internet calls between Aplio/Phones and
PCs or other compliant devices, realizing as
much as 100% savings on their long
distance phone bills. Aplio/Phone 2.0 takes
the remarkable Internet telephony
technology to a whole new level by offering
several enhancements including: enhanced
digital audio quality (PacketPlus(TM)
technology); even greater savings including
a WakeUp Call feature; user-friendly remote
configuration, as well as a new user
interface now available in nine languages.

This Aplio/Phone 2.0 upgrade will be
available for free download from the
Internet for all current users today, or can
be purchased for $199 by calling
1-888-OH-APLIO.

"Open Aplio" Extends Reach

With Aplio/Phone 2.0, users can now
communicate not only with other Aplio
users, but also with PCs using any standard
Internet Telephony and Conferencing
software such as Microsoft's NetMeeting.
"Open Aplio opens Aplio/Phone to users
anywhere in the world," said Olivier Zitoun,
CEO and president of Aplio.

"By making Aplio/Phone H.323 compliant, we
are expanding our reach to a whole new
group of users. Virtually anyone who has
access to a phone and a PC, can use Aplio
to cut their long distance calling costs."

How Aplio Works

Calling an Aplio/Phone from a PC is simple;
users enter the unique ID of the
Aplio/Phone they want to reach and within
a few seconds, the phone on the other end
will ring. To facilitate calls, Aplio offers Aplio
Dialer software for free download on its
website.

This innovative application features a
personal IP telephony address book that
automatically and transparently completes
the telephone connection. "This is the first
time PC users can enjoy free long distance
calls over the Internet to non-PC users
without any per-minute charges," noted
Zitoun. "This is a major achievement!"

True Telephone Quality

Aplio/Phone 2.0 features Aplio's new
PacketPlus(TM) technology enabling the
best digital sound quality for calls over the
public Internet network.

"PacketPlus addresses the most important
aspects of Internet Telephony: latency and
Internet traffic," said Henri Tebeka,
chairman and CTO of Aplio. "By continuously
monitoring Internet conditions,
PacketPlus(TM) automatically adjusts
packet size and redundancy. As a result,
users experience Internet telephone calls
that are nearly indistinguishable from calls
over the public telephone network."

Even Greater Savings

Aplio/Phone 2.0 delivers even greater
savings with the new WakeUp Call feature
that lets users automatically connect to
another Aplio/Phone without ever having to
place an initial long distance call. The
WakeUp Call feature automatically alerts
the other Aplio to connect via the Internet
-- the caller no longer needs to
pre-schedule calls to enjoy the benefits of
a 100% free long distance connection.

Additionally, Aplio/Phone 2.0 offers a new
extended voice interface, with support for
new languages: English, French, Spanish,
Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, Japanese,
Hebrew and German. International
Aplio/Phone users can now select the
language of choice via a free download over
the Internet.

About Aplio/Phone

The Aplio/Phone makes long distance calling
free. It is a standalone Internet telephony
appliance that reroutes calls over the
Internet without a computer. Aplio/Phone
connects to any standard telephone just
like an answering machine. Full-featured,
with a built-in processor and modem, Flash
RAM, hardware-based full-duplex voice
compression, Aplio/Phone uses a
patent-pending meeting process.

With the press of one button, calls are
rerouted to the Internet, eliminating any
per-minute long-distance charges, while
insuring superior sound quality rivaling that
of digital cellular phones. In addition, the
Aplio/Phone boasts a full-duplex
speakerphone that can be used even when
the device is not connected to the
Internet.

Aplio/Phone is available worldwide. It is
distributed in over 50 countries in the U.S.,
Canada, Asia, Latin America and Europe.
Estimated street price is $199 in the U.S.;
price may vary outside the U.S. The
product is backed by free unlimited tech
support, a 60-day money back guarantee
and a full one-year warranty.

(www.aplio.com), or by dialing
1-888-OH-APLIO, through Aplio Authorized
Resellers, Big Planet representatives and at

I-Link Signs Nationwide On-Net Service Agreement With MCI WorldCom Agreement Accelerates Local Deployment of I-Link's Enhanced IP Services Network

February 17, 1999

DRAPER, Utah, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/I-Link Inc.
(Nasdaq: ILNK), an IP (Internet Protocol)
telephony and enhanced communications
company, today announced it has signed a
multiyear, nationwide On-Net service
agreement with MCI WorldCom Inc. (Nasdaq:
WCOM) whereby MCI WorldCom becomes a
primary provider of local digital access spans
to I-Link as it deploys its Enhanced IP
Services Network nationwide.

According to John Edwards, I-Link's chairman
and CEO, the agreement provides a critical
fulcrum that helps I-Link aggressively enter
new markets throughout the United States.

"The major challenge we face in entering new
markets is having to negotiate access for
local services with different LECs (local
exchange carriers) or CLECs (competitive
local exchange carriers) in each area code
we enter," Edwards said. "For a large portion
of our service areas, we are now able to
implement an end-to-end, seamless service
for our customers versus a patchwork quilt
that would have resulted from negotiating
individual agreements with the various LECs
and CLECs."

I-Link's Enhanced IP Services Network
provides local access to V-Link which
includes services such as unified voice, fax
and e-mail messaging, conference calling and
one-number call routing and I-Link's
4.9-cents-per-minute long-distance.

To deploy its Enhanced IP Services Network,
I-Link will use primary rate interfaces (PRIs),
also known as local digital access spans,
throughout most of the United States. The
agreement with MCI WorldCom simplifies the
entire network deployment process for I-Link
and insures that the company will have a
more efficient process in place for ordering
new PRIs, as well as for managing and
expanding its network infrastructure.

Edwards said using PRIs will allow I-Link to
deploy its Enhanced IP Services Network
earlier than previously planned.

"These PRIs allow us to maximize the power
of V-Link because they support a faster and
more intelligent use of the IP-based design of
V-Link," Edwards said. "We are able to enter
into new markets throughout most of the
country more easily and quickly and deploy
our network much faster, because we only
have one party to deal with, instead of
multiple companies as before. As a result, we
anticipate completing our previously
announced deployment sooner than originally
expected."

Founded in 1994, I-Link Inc. is an IP
(Internet Protocol) telephony and enhanced
communications company that uses IP
telephony and its own private network to
provide low-cost long-distance, conference
calling, voice mail, fax, e-mail and other
communications services. I-Link's products
and services are primarily offered through a
network marketing channel. Through wholly
owned subsidiaries MiBridge Inc. and ViaNet
Technologies Ltd., I-Link develops emerging
communications technologies that are used
by I-Link and other leading communications
firms worldwide. I-Link is headquartered in
Draper, Utah, and its Web site is located at

The statements made in this release that are
not historical facts contain forward-looking
information that involves risks and
uncertainties. Important factors that may
cause actual results to differ include, but are
not limited to, the impact of competitive
products and services, the company's ability
to manage growth and acquisitions of
technology or businesses, the effect of
economic and business conditions, and other
risks detailed from time to time in the
company's filings with the Securities and
Exchange Commission.

Toshiba and Bellcore Team Up to Create the Future of Wireless Internet Communications

February 18, 1999

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)Toshiba Corporation and
Bellcore today announced the creation of a
joint research and development project
aimed at creating the technologies necessary
for the integration of wireless and Internet
communications. Results of the joint research
program may transform communications in
the 21st century by providing users with
convenient wireless access to voice, video,
data and multimedia services.

The principal focus of the Toshiba-Bellcore
joint research project is the development of
the middleware layers necessary to achieve
an Internet Protocol (IP) capable of working
with all types of cellular transmission
systems. The project will include the
development of software to enable mobility
with appropriate service quality, security,
network operations and management,
customer care systems, and applications
support.

The Toshiba-Bellcore collaboration, set to
start next month, draws on the key
competencies of the two companies --
Toshiba for its expertise in terminal and
wireless technologies and Bellcore for its
expertise in information networking software.
The research project will be headquartered in
Morristown, New Jersey, and will be staffed
with engineers from Bellcore and Toshiba
America Research, Inc. (TARI), Toshiba's first
U.S-based corporate-level research
subsidiary.

The establishment of TARI reflects the
expansion and globalization of Toshiba's R&D
activities in the field of IT technologies. Last
August, Toshiba set up a
Telecommunications Research Laboratory
(TRL) in the U.K., which undertakes research
in next-generation digital cellular phone and
wireless access technologies. Both TRL and
TARI work in close collaboration with
Toshiba's central research labs at its
corporate R&D Center in Japan.

Toshikazu Kodama, president of TARI, noted:
"Wireless Internet and Intranet connectivity
is the next frontier for the information and
communications industries. But there is much
work to be done before a workable system
can be implemented. We are confident that
the combined strength of Toshiba and
Bellcore engineering can solve the
technological issues before us and lay the
groundwork for what we predict will become
a multi-billion-dollar market for
communications hardware and network
services within the next 10 years."

"Through this unique relationship with
Toshiba, Bellcore is looking forward to
extending our capabilities in Next Generation
Networking into the wireless domain," said
Richard Wolff, vice president of Advanced
Network Systems Research Laboratory,
Bellcore. "With our joint research initiative,
we will bring IP-based voice, data and
Internet services to mobile users around the
world."
