If everyone expects a stock to gap up, and buys to sell into the gap, what happens?

I wouldn't hold a short overnight either to tell the truth. I recall the morning that it opened in the 80s from 12ish. Could have gotten 60 if I had waited until yesterday. <g> Datek was a decent source of shares back then and I managed to take 30 points from a short at the open. Still, it's too scary. But the fact is nobody anticipated that gap up. That gap up was Monday, 5/4/98. Go check the ENMD thread on 5/1/98. No anticipation. It couldn't have gapped like that otherwise, IMO.
