What a beautiful description. Thank you.

My father called me today to tell me that his third wife, the one with brain cancer, maybe I didn't mention that, is coming to Duke for an experimental treatment next week. They have been married about four years, they got married because she was in the process of adopting a son, and they were living together, and thought it would look better if they were married. So, now he has four kids by his first marriage, the oldest 46, the youngest 40, and he has a four year old son, and his third wife has brain cancer, glioma, two months to live. The treatment at Duke sounds interesting, maybe it will even work.

He tells me that Durham is only four hours away (my husband says six) and he needs someone to watch my little brother while his wife is having her surgery. Yeah, ok. What else can I say? I wouldn't ordinarily be such a lump about it, but the kid is hyperactive, and disobedient. But, his mother is dying, so maybe he has calmed down a little? Guess I'll find out.
