I've seen a lot of kids called hyperactive, some even formally diagnosed as such, when I honestly think their problem is simply not enough physical play. Get the kid outside and run him into the ground, and he may clear up amazingly fast. If he's disobedient, put him over your knee and whack him a good one across the backside; he'll figure out pretty damned quick that you're not mom. Of course a cuddle and a treat is called for after the crying stops, but that's not so bad.

Welcome back to the wild world of the little ones.

Coby, You need to drive to Durham? (Duh?) Can you? Can kiddie be shipped to you? You can't stay there....

Can't they like anesthetize him at the hospital and crate him on the Greyhound?

Coby,
I've been thinking about this a lot since I read it. What a tough thing to have to do. Is it a one time occurrence? Is it for only three or four days? WHere are your other siblings? Can you be clear about the parameters of the help you are able to give? THere are times we have to do something for others that really brings our own lives to a standstill, but I do think you have to judge just how long that can be for, what is tolerable for your own life and family. I have learned to be more selfish as I get older. No, selfish is the wrong word---that's the word people use when you don't do what they want you to do. If that word pops into the conversation, block it out. WIsh I were there to help in some way.
