Paul,

And every purchaser of a Pentium III will get this capability without having to buy a special, high priced graphics accelerator card.

No, they will have to buy a high priced PIII instead. Of course, they could buy a low priced K6-III, due out on Feb. 22.

The better solution is the graphics card.

Another couple of days like this and we are at 140 before release of the PIII. PC demand will pick up upon its release due to perception more than performance. There are people like me who want the fastest
computer (brand name---Intel of course) and will pay extra for it.

Therefore no AMD chip will satisfy me. I would rather have a PII than an AMD which might be faster. Gotta go with the "designer" label.
This is how people think -- whether you like it or not. AMD chip should go into only the cheapest computer for it to sell and Intel is making this difficult also.

What a company!

Intel longs: (of which I am one) The threat to Intel presented by AMD and others is not that they will displace Intel from its dominant position, but rather that they will prevent it from maintaining or increasing its profitability. Do you think that AMD et al will continue to pressure Intel's margins? Do you think that the current valuation multiple will decline if earning remain essentially flat for another year? Do you think that Intel will face antitrust action if it uses its financial muscle to repel AMD via price war?

Wondering if I should take my profit and wait for visibility to improve.

Intel To Launch Pentium III On Feb. 26

CANNES, France (Reuters) - Intel Corp. (Nasdaq:INTC - news) will officially launch its new Pentium III product on Feb. 26 following a big Feb. 17 preview event in San Jose, Calif.

An Intel spokeswoman said Thursday that after the launch date computer manufacturers would have PCs with Pentium III available for sale.

She added that Intel had not yet decided on the pricing of the Pentium III but that it should be the mainstream product of the company by the end of 1999.

The Pentium III will be launched with clock rates of 450 to 500 megahertz. Intel aims to boost the clock rates of its products to one gigahertz, but the spokeswoman said it was not sure whether this would be a Pentium III version or another product.
