February 12, 1999
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., and SEATTLE, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ via NewsEdge Corporation -- As part of its strategy to become a one-stop resource for digital imaging, @Home Network (Nasdaq: ATHM), the leading provider of broadband Internet services via the cable infrastructure, today announced that it is teaming with Corbis, the Place for Pictures on the Internet (www.corbis.com). @Home and Intel Corporation have been co-developing " Making Pictures," a broadband portal for digital imaging education, resources, and tools. Integrating the best photography content on the Web, "Making Pictures" was created to be a one-stop shop for users to develop and digitize film, create and distribute digital images, and learn about the latest imaging products. As the first "Making Pictures" content provider, Corbis will provide subscribers with the ability to search the site's premiere picture collection, create e-postcards, print images, and purchase prints and posters.
"By adding half a million Corbis pictures and imaging e-commerce functionality to @Home's 'Making Pictures' channel, which we've been building with Intel, we are further proving our commitment to become the gateway for broadband imaging," said Charles Moldow, vice president, @Media sales & marketing for @Home Network. "Corbis' outstanding photography collection and premiere picture search engine combined with @Home's high speed network will enable subscribers to find the pictures they want quickly and share them easily with others."
With Corbis' robust collection of images and diverse applications, "Making Pictures" will become a place where analog and digital photographers can come together online to share images, exchange e-postcards, and purchase prints and posters of their favorite images as gifts or for use on their personal websites. @Home subscribers now have a fast way to obtain their favorite photos at consumer prices. They can search through more than 500,000 pictures online from the Corbis Collection, including images of world cultures, travel, historic news events, and famous celebrities from sources including The Bettmann Archive, United Press International, and the LGI collection. Subscribers will also be able to access Ansel Adams images and products through Ansel Adams at Corbis.
"Corbis' relationship with @Home brings enhanced access of the famous Corbis Collection to a broader online audience while maximizing the @Home Network backbone and 'Making Pictures' destination," said David Rheins, vice president of Corbis Productions. "@Home's broadband capabilities and market appeal combined with our e-commerce capabilities and extensive, high-quality image database represents a perfect match for online consumers' needs."
