SO all these hacking, sick kids are dragging themselves to school everyday.

That happens in the workplace too unfortunately. Some companies have instituted a system where you simply get a certain number of "off" days per year, whether vacation or sick time or personal days or whatever. Then they say they will pay you at year end for unused days. So people come in sick as dogs so they can either use what would normally be sick days for vacation or be paid at year end for not taking any sick time.

The motivation for this was to encourage work attendance, but most places that have tried it have found that it backfires.

Boy I hope they chlorinate the %$#@ out of that water.
When I get sick, I get *sick*. Trying to "work it out" has always led me deeper into the abyss. I'm a big believer in bedrest, chicken soup, and a trashy paperback or three.

PS tell him to watch it on the Robitussin ... :-)

Penni,

Bend with it. A boy becoming a man has to prove himself impervious to pain and suffering. Don't you dare stop him. Colonel Richard Lovelace -- to Lucasta on going to the Wars (careful there may be errors) : "I could not love thee, Dear, so much loved I not honour more!"

Odd how quickly they forget that the whole point of keeping sick people home from school - or an office - is so everybody else doesn't catch it.

"Fui." Dear Penni, is this a mild exclamation of frustration or the password to your soul in some Asian language?

There is a word which I believe sounds the same, which I have always spelled "fooey". Now that I think of it, this is a most interesting word. Does anyone have a word origins dictionary? I would be quite curious to know its history. I can sort of hear the Wife of Bath uttering such a word; I wonder if it was around in Chaucer's time.

Now where is that charming Thomas when he is clearly needed?
