Oh, for pity's sake, I'm an agnostic! If you have trouble believing it, check out my profile and look at my postings. I feel as though I accidentally wandered onto "feelies" with this. Doroteo, I have a good deal of respect for you, having followed this thread and your postings for a while. Pancho, she has a point, imho - the consistency of oral histories over time can be amazing. There was a study done around the turn of the century of the Indian languages, legends, history, etc of the BC coast, i think by someone connected with the Father Duncan of Metlakatla - I've seen reference to it on the net somewhere. What surprised the writer most strongly was the way intertribal events, like battles mostly, were recounted after 15 or 20 generations almost exactly the same between tribes that not only spoke completely different languages, but had been at war continuously for centuries. The only significant differences were that the good guy/bad guy roles were reversed -g- ..... wish i could remember the author's name, it'll come to me ..... cheers ps - i really don't think she's pushing any religious stuff on you, go back and check it out pps - aaf.gov.bc.ca - there's a reference on the uvic site i think [U. of Victoria]
