Johannes, Understand first and foremost that this response is being formulated under the influence of a considerable amount of fine California Chardonnay. To put it somewhat more succinctly, I'm lit. That being stipulated....their values are being encroached upon such that those who have managed to topple the moral system have arrogated to themselves the right to force the religious conservatives and everyone else to support their worldview. A somewhat convoluted statement, IMO. Who, exactly, is forcing religious conservatives to support any views that run contrary to their beliefs? Aside from taxpayer funded abortions and other governmental intrusions on individual rights, that is. Abrogating governmental powers to force conformity with ones own moral and social views is reprehensible, whether coming from the right or left.Religious conservatives are those being imposed upon. In return, they use the tools available to them in the democracy to fight back. Oh, yes. Between the right and left, the "tools" of government are being used (and abused) to pound freedom into submission. Do you believe that two wrongs can make a right? I don't. Claiming religious are trying to impose their views on the entire populace quite misses the mark, and betrays acceptance of propaganda. BS, and you know it. You'd love to jam your moral code down the countries throat just as much as the statist socialists would love to impose their agenda. When religious conservatives experience these sorts of subtle and overt insults, they sense their own existences being threatened Pardon me, but do I sense paranoia??They are not imposing their values, du jour, upon others. It's not the values, du jour (of the day), but the values, de jure (by right of law) that I'm talking about. What they generally support are moments of silence, allocated for students to use as they see fit. Pardon me, but an obviously rather stupid concept. Religious students can pray 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if they so choose. No one's stopping them. How would you feel if a student used the moment of silence to contemplate how much he'd like to bang the head cheerleader? That's the kind of "prayer" that would predominate in most high school settings. My friend, the fact is regardless of your beliefs here religious conservatives ARE being “forced to fund the procedures with their tax dollars.” Believing as you do, you must logically agree that the system is manifestly unfair. I do indeed, in this instance. you must understand that when religious conservatives lobby our government, try to shape popular opinion and press for laws to support their positions, they merely participate in the American system. I detest those (of whatever ideology) who attempt to utilize the powers of government to subvert the free choices of any individual. Our system does not allow individuals this sort of freedom. It damn well should!! My lifestyle choices, however radical and out of the mainstream, are no one else's business, especially the governments, as long as they don't infringe on anyone else's rights and freedoms. JB
