MeDroogies, a bit surprising to see no posts on JDEC's disappointing earnings announcement yesterday.

It seems like just another confirmation of the shakeout we're seeing in the ERP marketplace. PSFT, Baan, JDEC, SAP,.... all continue to stumble badly as the competitive pressure intensifies. At the end of the day, the marketplace will consist of only 2 major market players, Oracle & SAP. Oracle's ability to leverage its complete end-to-end enterprise solutions, from database/application servers, development/DSS tools, to fully integrated off-the-shelf, browser based ERP apps will significantly tip the scales in their favour. The tight integration of their browser based ERP apps with their internet database (8i) will allow them to leverage a significant advantage over SAP. If one compares the charts and mkt caps of SAP, Baan, JDEC, PSFT,... versus Oracle I think the market is clearly beginning to recognize this. Classic marketplace economics. I love it!

For those who think JDEC, PSFT, Baan, SAP,.... might be undervalued and represent a potential buying opportunity, do your homework carefully. Oracle is just beginning to obliterate there future. Or as Larry Ellison phrased it "put them in a nuclear winter". It'll also be a bit troublesome for those customers that myopically purchased some of there products. In the software/vendor selection process , a vendors financial and technical resources as well as their ability to product innovate going forward is also critical factor. JDEC, PSFT, Baan, have blown it bigtime.

Thoughts, opinions, anyone,
John
