Mary, I've been giving a lot of thought to the internet companies, particularly portals, and I believe that the focus needs to be shifted to the value added to consumers. If you look at membership retailers (like Costco) they provide a value to members in the form of lower prices and the ability to make bulk purchases (although that gets annoying when buying automobiles -- do I really need a bubble pack of Explorers??). Perhaps I am incorrect here, but I don't see that kind of value derived from AOL, but it could and should happen. That way the AOL site could receive commissions from merchants and customers would receive tangible value in return for their membership fees.

TTFN,
CTC
