Re: Netscape Plugins

Hi Mark,

Plugins are smaller programs that are loaded when you start Netscape that allow custom applications to run properly within the browser. Such plugins are Real Player, Cosmo Player, Macromedia Shockwave, etc.

Taken from Netscape's Website...

"Plug-ins are software programs that extend the
capabilities of Netscape Navigator in a specific
way - giving you, for example, the ability to play
audio samples or view video movies from within
Navigator"

I do recall that there is a way to find out exactly which plugins you have loaded, and as soon as I find out, I'll post it here.

When you install Communicator 4.5, many of the common plugins are already embedded within Netscape. Normally, if you go to a site that requires a plugin, there will be a link there for the program that you can download and install.

Hope that clarifies a few things.

Richard

Mark...I updated to Netscape Communicator 4.5 recently. Use the Smart Update feature, it works great. After you have installed the update, you can go to Help at the top of your Browser and click on Software Updates. You will get a list of available plugins. Just select the ones you want and they will be downloaded and installed automatically for you. I had no problems with download or install. Good luck.
