Nihil, I'm unclear about your point in this post. Are you saying that we can never judge or condemn anyone's actions for any reason because we ourselves are not pure? That would be preposterous. We seem as a society to have lost the ability (the nerve?)to say certain things are right and other things are wrong. We no longer seem capable of demanding character, moral courage, personal sacrifice, wisdom. We often laugh and insult people who take moral stands with which we don't agree, labeling them arrogant or patronizing. Maybe it's because I have the flu and 102 fever, but I'm going to throw myself out here and say that I DO scoff at Clinton. I do judge him. What he did was despicable and stupid and morally corrupt; I expect, I demand, more from a leader. Who or what Monica is has nothing to do with it. What Hyde or Barr have done in their lives has nothing to do with it. It may be easy for older adults to accept this behavior with a cynical shrug, but I have two young men who have been raised to believe in character and personal ethics and are still idealistic enough to look to adults to exhibit these traits. ANd I am angry---FURIOUS--at this man for destroying their belief on so many different levels, from the moral authority of the President's Office to a lack of commitment to his own family. Fui. My head aches.
