Thanks for the comments. I have wiped the slate clean, had a pro in here to do it about 4 weeks ago. It seems like to only option left is to put it in the trash. I would never get it over my heart to sell this thing to someone else and have them live through the hell of owning Dell.

I will check out your advise, thanks. Just one question - if it is a software problem why would Dell be sending me programs to try and correct it i.e. they sent me some intellimouse stuff some time ago to try and fix one of the problems?
