At Home-Is it worth the price?

For investors sniffing around At Home, the question to mull is how much you believe At Home will reach its goals.

Its valuation, currently at $9.5 billion, suggests investors expect nothing short of those goals.

Many analysts gush at the At Home potential but balk at its current market valuation. After all, this is a company with only $48 million in 1998 revenues, nearly the equivalent in losses ($40 million) and only 331,000 customers.

"At Home will be one of the first to develop killer apps for broadband and the merger makes a lot of sense. But still, you have to get to the question of valuation. Is this all worth $10 billion or $15 billion?" asked analyst Dana Serman of Schroder & Co. "We love the fundamentals, but we rate it a 'hold.' "

"There is a chance they will make these goals, but a lot has yet to transpire," Serman continued.
