I agree! Often I drink my best wines without food. Usually, these are pinot noir wines.

Since no one has posted about the two Merlots from Ste. Michelle, eventually, I will have to do my own tasting!!!!

The dinner that you described sounds wonderful!!! I do not think it is necessary to order an an expensive wine for a rich dinner.

Usually, I reserve a very good bottle of Oregon pinot noir for fresh Alaska sockeye salmon which I grill. The only seasoning I use is pepper. I might serve up the dish with grilled fresh asparagus and wild rice. It all depends........................

Always, the meal is very simple if the wine is expensive.
