Gap up at open is largely due to day-traders trying to fuel the price movements, and the day-traders like to have gap opens by "default". Trading for a living largely depend on a "up market" and therefore that's always their first choice.(consciously or un-consciously as a group)

If you have a small box position, gap up is a good way to day trade.

Sarmad--what I am interested in here is whether or not there is something worth knowing about -- a major shift in investment patterns by big time Japanese investors is enough to move the markets -- the Japanese are not big holders of AMZN (that I know of), they are not selling stocks that I know of -- but they are selling bonds and as they sell bonds rates go up here and fund managers, sensing a bargain will reallocate funds from stocks to bonds -- and highfiers like AMZN stand to take a fall. Thats it. Good night.
