I think I heard him when he was somewhat unfortunate. Having working with many many Phd.'s; I can tell you from first hand knowledge that many if not most are very eccentric types. They usually are very out of balance; they have extreme specialization in one particular field and usually have quirky tastes in everything else. Many lack social skills and interpersonal awareness. They are thrilling in their field and pain in the asses in general everyday matters. This is a generalization and so there are plenty of exceptions, but in general, this is accurate from my first hand experiences with the highly educated. The opportunity cost of a more balanced normal life that is made pursuing the rigors of the high degree is what causes this along with highly intelligent people being more and more quirky. Potomac and Bethesda, MD are filled with screwed up kids of these types. I know; I've dated many of the gals from these families and the brothers are just as messed up. Not all; but so many!
