I think these attitudes are shifting towards a more neutral basis especially among younger people.

This is maybe just in California. I only think that based on reading what these people say here.... its been quite enlightening. Recently I tried to introduce my ex (who comes from a prominent family in the scientific community) to a single girlfriend who is a software developer using "Lotus Notes". He didnt want to meet her really, because he considers Lotus Notes to be a secretarys job - those were his exact words. He is a bit of a snob, as is his father (not that this is good, Im just pointing out my reality).
