LSI Logic Powers TPC-D Performance to New Heights

- LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc. and NCR Corporation Combine to Establish

Industry Leading Data Warehouse Benchmark Results -

WICHITA, Kan., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of scalable storage solutions for the enterprise, announced today that its storage played a critical role in establishing new record- breaking TPC-D (Transaction Performance Council -- Decision Support) benchmark results. The new world record results were announced today by NCR Corporation in conjunction with the introduction of their latest WorldMark server platforms.

"We are pleased to once again be selected as the provider of storage technology for this record-setting benchmark," said Mitch Seigle, director of OEM Sales and Marketing, LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc. "This underscores the strategic role of scalable storage in satisfying the rapidly growing information needs of enterprises regardless of size."

As organizations attempt to increase global competitiveness, the ability to deliver an ever-increasing amount of information in a timely manner can mean the difference between success and failure. To meet these demands storage must be flexible in terms of ability to grow while offering consistently superior performance. This is especially true for organizations that are utilizing data warehousing solutions to achieve competitive advantage.

"Just as with any strategic information system, enterprise data warehouses must be highly scalable in terms of capacity, performance and availability, and the requirements must be met at a total solution level. The increased demands placed on today's systems propagate into the storage layer," said Henry Morris, Program Director, Data Warehousing and Information Access, International Data Corporation.

The record-setting configurations included NCR WorldMark 4800 and 5200 servers, NCR's flagship Teradata database and the NCR Storage Cabinet (NSC), incorporating scalable disk array technology from LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc. The benchmark results clearly demonstrate the scalability of the NSC at performance and capacity points that are aligned with the needs of customers whose data warehouses range from gigabytes to terabytes.

"The NCR Storage Cabinet, powered by LSI Logic, provides the superior performance and availability that NCR Teradata warehouse customers have come to expect," said Dale Hazel, Product Management Vice President for NCR's Data Warehouse Solutions Division. "Our close relationship with LSI Logic allows us to deliver tightly integrated scalable storage solutions optimized for the rigorous demands of Teradata."
