I would have agreed with you until I saw the WIPO @ patents.ibm.com which posts patent applications.

Didn't MicroOS Audio use to be called Flashback Audio?

"Flashback Audio is a patent pending device designed to play back NEAR CD-quality music using SanDisk's CompactFlash(tm) (CF) cartridges as the storage media."

If MicroOS and Flashback Audio are the same thing with different names then I guess they changed their minds about getting a separate patent on MicroOS Audio.

NORRIS COMMUNICATIONS TO DISPLAY FLASHBACK AUDIO(tm)
IN SANDISK'S BOOTH AT COMDEX

New CD-Quality Music Playback Device Uses SanDisk's CompactFlash(tm)

SAN DIEGO, California, November 10, 1997---Norris Communications Inc. (OTC: NCII) announced today that it will be demonstrating Flashback Audio(tm) at COMDEX in SanDisk Corporation's booth (Las Vegas Convention Center 1204). Flashback Audio is a patent pending device designed to play back near CD-quality music using SanDisk's CompactFlash(tm) (CF) cartridges as the storage media. This technology is targeted at OEM licensees for stand-alone products or integration into a wide range of consumer products.

Nelson Chan, SanDisk Vice President of Marketing, said, "We invited Norris to display Flashback Audio in our COMDEX booth because it is an innovative new application for SanDisk CompactFlash memory cards, and holds great promise for wide use in consumer products. CF lends itself perfectly to being the storage medium for applications which are price-sensitive, limited in size, battery operated, and have high performance requirements like Flashback Audio."

"This small, portable all-in one record and playback device will create new applications not possible with CD's, cassette tapes, and other audio technologies" said Fred Falk, President of Norris Communications. "For example, a standard CD can only be recorded once, while Flash memory life is commonly rated at 1,000,000 record/erase cycles. Cassette tapes are bulky, not compatible with computers and do not allow random insert/delete. No recording medium has truly filled the void left by cassettes for consumers who want to record their own music. Flashback Audio will fill this void with a totally digital, non-mechanical and computer compatible technology that allows the consumer to quickly download music from the Internet or record their CD collection onto CF through their PC. Flashback Audio will enable users to customize music mixes, selecting their favorite songs from different artists, and easily record them onto CF cards for personal use and easy transport in a fraction of the recording time."

SanDisk Corporation, the world's largest supplier of flash data storage products, designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, image and audio storage products using patented, high density flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale, CA, and is publicly traded on NASDAQ under the symbol SNDK.

Norris Communications Inc. is a San Diego-based company specializing in computer-compatible OEM products, including its MicroOS flash memory operating system, Multichip modules, private label products and custom-designed products. Norris is the innovator and recognized leader in utilizing flash memory for digital voice, audio, image, video, and data recording, storage and playback. The Company is also developing Flashback Audio™, a patent-pending technology designed to record and play back near CD-quality music using a matchbook-size flash memory card.
