but the captain and his team knew about it at least an hour before. unless this part, too, is not accurate, it doesn't make sense why they couldn't built more ships just in case help doesn't arrive ("4 hours?" the captain responded when he was notified of the distance of the nearest ship). few actually new the fact that the ship will sink but didn't want to create a panic. --so what if there's a little panic? the job had to be done. with that many man, there was a chance for them most if not all to survive.
