*cdma2000 in Finland* Tero's comments here:

So far, his argument is that it is a small company wanting the licence so it won't work. Of course, they might just sell a big chunk of stock to some other company, such as Leap Wireless International, Vodafone or whoever to fund the development. Big companies nearly all start out small.

The spectrum management and licence issuing procedures seem peculiar and technology oriented. Tradeable spectrum rights would solve the problems.

There is suggestion that only 3 licences could be issued if cdma2000 is used whereas VW40 would enable 4. But there is a slight problem = VW40 doesn't have the necessary ownership of technology to get started and when they do, they are going to be up to their ears in litigation which by all accounts they will comprehensively lose.

The little engine that could use cdma2000 might just pull off quite an upset.

The Internet Group Ltd in Auckland, with only 70,000 subscribers is planning a similar venture by the look of it. It seems to me they could do it very well.

He thinks cdma2000 handsets will be hopeless for Q! because they will need to be GSM/cdma2000 dual mode in Finland and Europe. True enough in the initial stages until the cdma2000 tsunami has swept over Europe. Nokia will want to produce those handsets - they will be licensed and Ericy will not. So they will love it! They might even be backing the little company which could. Nokia will clean up!

Q! will be happy too because they will collect royalties on every Nokia handset and device and that will be on the wholesale price so Q! will collect royalties on the GSM component too. How about that for cute!

These are very interesting times.
