Duckster,

Picked up on that too. It does seem to be prominently mentioned.

To me, the patent announcement is a real comfort, since I believe that (1) Valence will indeed be able to license this technology to existing li-ion participants, (2) Valence will be able to incorporate the new cathodes in their own li-polymer technology, and (3) Valence may or may not decide to license the technology to competing li-polymer manufacturers (they could really screw the competition by refusing to license this new technology for use in competitors'li-polymer products).

The announcement also raises the bar, I think, to both li-ion and li-polymer technology requiring roughly 170-180 wt-hrs/kg in order to compete, even though it may be a year away in li-ion (though I suspect less in Valence's li-polymer products if the most recent Hanil announcement is accurate).

One additional comment: a financial advisor who has spoken to Valence management over the past year indicated that Valenfor ce expected that eventually it could have as much revenue (read that pretax income) from licensing as from product sales. Bottom line: this patent could allow Valence a tremendous amount of leverage in the li-ion/li-poly battery industry.

And for skeptics: even if you doubt the company's ability to produce effectively, this patent seems to increase substantialy the intellectual property (and value in an acquisition) of the Company.
