Hi, heirteg,

A 3/8 gain every day would be great, but I am a little surprised at the subdued reaction to the press release about the new patent. I think this is a very big announcement.

As I read the press release, it is major good news, and as I read the release, it is entirely a bonus. It presents a new, and potentially huge, source of value owned by the company. The patent confirms Valence has a technology which will significantly enhance by every measure the performance of "rechargeable liquid lithium battery systems currently available." It sounds like a semi-quantum leap in the technology of the liquid lithium-ion battery. Valence may likely have something which will prove a must-have for many li-ion producers seeking a leg up on, and then to keep up with, the competition.

The press release says, in effect, to the li-ion industry with its liquids and its cans that "Valence has a patent that proves that there is a much better way to build the cathode, and that if interested, Valence will license the way it has found. You can get started now. Or, you can search out some other way that is better than what you have. But meanwhile, Valence will make attractive licensing arrangements to those who want an early start or don't want to incur the costs and risks of their own research." Valence enjoys the prospects of collecting license royalties from its liquid-lithium ion competition. Meanwhile, it produces its own li-poly batteries with the same technology plus the advantages of poly. Sweet deal, eh?

I would think the prospect of such a sweet deal would be worth, say, 2 points upward in the stock price. It adds a whole new, and potentially large and profitable, dimension to Valence. It is separate from, above, and beyond the business of the Valence we know and love, which is to produce li-poly batteries. It suggests that even as it goes along its li-poly ways, Valence has the possibility of making a deep reach into the revenue pockets of the liquid lithium ion battery industry.

Regards, lws
