Pat, It tries to separate moves that have some momentum over the moves that are more sideways in nature. Basically, the market has to either crap or get off the pot. It operates somewhat similar to ADX. The problem I have with it is that there seems to be a lot of false starts so I call the initial signal preliminary and if the oomph continues, it is confirmed. I am unable to back-test as I don't keep short term data very long. Tom didn't help at all<g>.
