I've heard it's hard to get in on the IPO's at E*Trade.

Only on noticing that the IPO is available and getting your application in before it's already closed. I'm two-for-two on the ones I actually applied for, GCTY (200 shares, unfortunately sold before the big run up) and MMPT (100 shares, still holding). There was one I wanted to apply for, MKTW, but that was opened for applications then closed in a matter of a couple of hours before I even knew it was open. PER was closed very quickly, too, but I saw it before it closed. I just stupidly didn't apply for it because I didn't want to be in both PER and MMPT at the same time.

If you join their "platinum service" for active traders then you're supposed to get an advance notification. Look on their web site somewhere (didn't see it just now with a quick glance) for more info.
